LCPHCA General Membership Meeting October 24, 2006 Rodger Burgess-President, called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM. After recognizing past LCPHCA officers and board members, Rodger announced that a new slate of officers would be taking over in February of ’07, with Ted Daniel as President. Melissa Conner will become the new VP. Melissa brings years of experience from her work with the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Pinellas (Hansford) Park, and is on familiar terms with many county officials. Rick Hollahan has graciously agreed to continue as Treasurer. Vera Kornylak will become the new Zoning Committee chair and we are very fortunate to have her agree to take on this responsibility. Rodger gave the Treasurer’s report for Rick Hollohan. Our monthly cash burn is about $450 per month, most of it being spent on the entrances maintenance. At this rate we should be OK until our next membership drive in the Fall of 2007 when we will need to have a very successful membership drive to build the treasury back up. Rodger introduced Alison Hondroulis, the new Grounds Chairperson. We are all very appreciative of her willingness to take on this task. Grounds Committee Report: Alison brings a lot of new ideas and enthusiasm to this job. Alison has already put in some new plants at the Trailmark entrance, and asked for volunteers to help on Saturday, October 28, to put in some plants at the Spring Creek entrance. She is also looking into a new lawn service contract in conjunction with the Swim/Tennis club’s service. This led to a discussion of improving the entrances, and Rodger mentioned that some thought has been given to some sort of new entrance markers. Suggestions have included pillars (like in Sagamore Hills), a wrought iron design similar to the Directory cover, and/or bringing back street signs that list all the neighborhood streets on hanging metal panels. Anyone with a graphic or artistic background is welcome to touch base with Rodger to see if some designs can be worked up by the next meeting. The issue of paying for this was discussed. Karen Young McKenzie had a suggestion to make attractive wooden house number signs that one could place on one’s house. She will look into the cost of getting these produced, but suggested that each resident who contributed $50 toward the new entrance improvements would get a house number sign. Sue Thore passed out flyers on the upcoming Candidates Fair next Monday, Oct. 30th, at the Greek Orthodox Church on Clairmont Rd. Time is from 7-9PM, and is a great way to get to speak with a number of candidates on the issues, and make a more intelligent choice in the voting booth on November 7th. Ted Daniel (VP) mentioned a few items of general interest: Christmas Caroling in December. Suggested dates are the 19th and 21st. We will meet at the Clubhouse at 7PM and then sing carols for our neighbors. Participants are encouraged to think of elderly and shut-in residents who would appreciate some off key carols. Free Beginner Bridge Lessons will be offered in January, ’07 on the 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th. Each class will start at 7:30 and end around 9PM. Leafmore Creek Park Hills and residents from other neighborhoods are being invited to learn this challenging and enjoyable card game. Blueprint For Lavista-The year long community based planning effort to provide guidelines for future development along the Lavista Road corridor between Clairmont Rd. and the Northlake Public Library at Hairobi, officially issued their 40 page report on October 25th. Copies will be available as a pdf at www.allianceforalivablelavista.org within a few days. Many LCPH residents will find this of interest. Quality of Life Job Site Rules were discussed, and contacts were announced if a resident thinks that a violation is occurring. The basic rules are:
If someone suspects a violation, please contact Sue Thore on Montevallo 404-634-9947, Ted Daniel on Knollwood Terrace 404-315-7833, or Vera Kornylak on Tanglewood 404-636-8635 (only after 9AM or before 7PM for Vera please). Crime was then discussed, and all residents are encouraged to call the police if they see suspicious people or unknown vehicles parked in the area. There is an ever increasing incidence of crime in our area, and all residents need to be careful. Several members reporting hearing shots in the area just last week, and casings from assault weapons have been found in Sagamore Hills. Lawn mowers, bikes, leaf blowers and similar items that are left in carports are frequently stolen. Break-ins are also increasing. If you think your house has been broken into, call the cops, DO NOT attempt to enter the house to see what is missing. The robbers could still be in there! Reid Mallard, Distribution Chair, announced that he needed two new volunteers to distribute newsletters and flyers for the civic association on two routes. He had two members volunteer at the meeting, so we extend the thanks of the neighborhood to the new and veteran distribution committee members for their vital service! This concluded the officers/committee reports, and Rodger entertained questions from the membership. Several issues were mentioned:
There being no further discussion, Rodger adjourned the meeting at 8:40 PM. The above agenda was also followed at the most recent LCPHCA Board Meeting on Sept. 26, 2007. Respectfully Submitted, Ted Daniel Acting Recording Secretary Back to Leafmore-Creekpark.org |
